Tata's chip plant will need 450 suppliers, and is building a 363-acre park for them
India's first big chip factory, in Dholera, Gujarat, needs many partner companies close by to keep running.
In short
- About 450 Indian and foreign suppliers are expected to support Tata Electronics' chip factory in Dholera.
- Tata is building a 363-acre "plug-and-play" vendor park next to it, so suppliers can set up fast.
- A chip factory cannot stop even for a few hours, so repair teams, spare parts, chemicals and gases must be nearby.

What happened
- At SEMICON India 2026, Utpal Shah, a senior vice president at Tata Electronics, said about 450 suppliers will support the Dholera fab.
- Tata is developing a 363-acre vendor park with a Singapore-based developer. It will have ready power, water, roads and, in some cases, buildings.
- Foreign suppliers can buy land in the park.
- Tata also announced partnerships, including Fujifilm for a materials plant (about ₹700 crore, in phases) and Nexperia to make its power chips at the new fab.
- Tata's CEO said the Dholera fab and the Assam packaging plant are on track.
What suppliers will do
- Repair and maintenance of very costly chip-making machines.
- Spare parts kept close by so machines are fixed fast.
- Chemicals and gases of very high purity, used every day in the fab.
- Logistics and warehousing to move materials safely.
Why it matters
Why this is useful
- A fab is only as good as its supply chain. Suppliers next door mean less downtime and lower cost.
- A ready-made park makes it easier and faster for global companies to come to India.
Why it is good for freshers
- Hundreds of supplier companies will need engineers: equipment service, process support, quality, testing and safety.
- ECE, EEE, mechanical and chemical engineering graduates can all find roles here, not only chip designers.
- Tata also announced a talent-training partnership with Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, L&T EduTech and Jacobs.
Why it is good for India
- It builds a full chip "town" in Gujarat, not just one factory.
- Indian vendors get a chance to learn from global suppliers and later serve other fabs.
